ILLUSTRA / TERMS OF USE
Terms of Use
Last updated:
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Illustra AI Ltd ("Illustra", "we", "us") governing your use of Illustra.
If you have any questions, contact us at hello@illustraedu.com.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data and is available at https://www.illustraedu.com/privacy.
Using Illustra
- Illustra requires a free account to use.
- Paid plans — Plus, Pro and Ultra — provide additional features. The features included in each plan are shown in Illustra under Settings → Plan and on our website.
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or purchase a plan. If you are under 18, you should have permission from a parent or guardian before making a purchase.
- Keep your password secure. Accounts are for individual use and must not be shared.
Your work is yours
Your notes, flashcards, materials and other content you create or add to Illustra remain yours. We do not claim ownership of them.
If you use library backup, we store your content so that we can provide the backup and restore service to you.
Only upload or use material that you have the right to use, such as your own notes or material you are permitted to use from your school, college, university or course.
The AI
Illustra's AI runs locally on your computer.
AI can make mistakes, including after checking its own output. Illustra should therefore be treated as a study aid. Important information should be checked against your course materials, teachers or other reliable sources.
We do not guarantee any particular academic result or grade.
The AI models used by Illustra are provided by third parties and are subject to their respective licences and terms.
Scout and Sage use Qwen3 models made available under the Apache 2.0 licence.
Scholar uses Gemma 3. Gemma is provided under and subject to the Gemma Terms of Use at https://ai.google.dev/gemma/terms and its Prohibited Use Policy at https://ai.google.dev/gemma/prohibited_use_policy.
You must not use those models in a way prohibited by their applicable terms.
Paid plans
Price
Plus costs £4.99 per month, Pro costs £14.99 per month and Ultra costs £19.99 per month.
Payments are processed by Stripe.
Renewal
Paid plans renew automatically each month until cancelled.
If we increase the price of your subscription, we will give you at least 30 days' notice before the new price applies. You can cancel before the change takes effect.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time through:
Illustra → Settings → Plan → Manage subscription.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid billing period. You keep access to your paid plan until then and will not be charged for another billing period.
Starting immediately, cancellation rights and refunds
Your paid Illustra features are made available immediately after payment.
Where applicable to digital content supplied immediately, we will ask for your express consent for supply to begin straight away and for your acknowledgement that, once supply begins, you lose the statutory 14-day cancellation right that would otherwise apply to that digital content.
Separately from your statutory rights, Illustra offers a voluntary 3-day refund period on your first subscription payment.
If you change your mind within 3 days of your first payment, email hello@illustraedu.com. We will refund that first payment in full and end your paid subscription.
After that voluntary 3-day period, and for subsequent subscription renewals, payments are not normally refundable simply because you stop using Illustra part-way through a billing period. This does not affect any refund, cancellation or other rights you have under applicable law, including where something supplied is faulty or not as described.
Cancelling your subscription prevents the next renewal payment.
Weekly allowances
Some plans include weekly allowances for features such as AI actions, uploads or flashcards.
Weekly allowances reset each Monday and unused allowances do not carry over.
Changing plans
Moving to a plan with lower limits does not delete your existing content. Where a limit is exceeded, it may prevent you from creating additional content or using certain paid features until your allowance resets or your plan changes.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Things you must not do
You must not:
- use Illustra to break the law or harm another person;
- attempt to bypass plan limits or access restrictions;
- share an individual account with other people;
- resell access to Illustra without our permission;
- attack, overload, disrupt or attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems, another user's account, or any third-party system.
If you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms, we may suspend or close your account. Where appropriate, we will tell you why unless we are legally prevented from doing so.
The service
We work to keep Illustra's account, sign-in and backup services available, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability.
Your locally stored notes remain on your computer if our online services are temporarily unavailable.
You should keep your own copy of important work. Illustra's export feature is available at:
Settings → Backup & sync → Export library.
We may change, improve, replace or discontinue features over time.
If a material change removes something included in a paid plan you have already purchased, we will give you reasonable notice where practicable and you may cancel your subscription.
Responsibility
We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaching these Terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not reasonably foreseeable, or for business losses arising from consumer use of Illustra.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
Ending your account
You can stop using Illustra at any time.
You can delete your account through:
Settings → Account → Delete account.
If you have an active paid subscription, cancel it before deleting your account.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. If a change materially affects you, we will also provide notice in Illustra or through another appropriate method.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.
Nothing in these Terms removes any mandatory consumer protection that applies to you under the law where you live.
